THE THREE TREASURES OF MACROBIOTICS
With Michael Rossoff, L.Ac.
————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Chinese medicine says that life contains three treasures. They are Jing—original essence, Qi—energy, and Shen—spirit. These can apply equally to the life of a person, organization or movement. The harmony between these three treasures determines its direction and longevity. How has the macrobiotic "movement" stood up to these three treasues in terms of being a diet, lifestyle, healing system and practical means for living a simple, sane life? What about its earlier version of offering solutions for a healthy society and world? Michael will explore these ideas in terms of the macrobiotic movement—past and present, and with a vision toward the future.

March 24

Wednesday Evening Lecture
“Healing From the Inside Out ”
HEALING FROM THE INSIDE OUT
With Michael Rossoff, L.Ac.
————————————————————————————————————————————————————
The human body is a fully-functional self-healing system. The key to this miracle is digestion – the process by which stomach, pancreas, gall bladder, liver and intestines work together to transform food into blood. If any digestive organ fails to fulfill its role properly, major or minor sickness can result. Join Michael for a close look at how to keep digestion in top form, using both Western medicine’s viewpoint and Eastern medicine’s profound understanding of energy systems. You will learn to recognize trouble brewing along with subtle to important signs of improvement; discover foods that fortify or weaken specific organs; and find out how different cooking methods, proportions, activities, and even meal times affect digestion. You can start immediately to perk up digestion and enhance your self-healing capabilities using six helpful major acupressure points.

FROM ANCIENT TO MODERN TIMES: PILLARS OF HEALTH
With Michael Rossoff, L.Ac.
————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Ancient Chinese medical texts and thinking continue to illuminate our definitions and perspectives on health and healing. Among the many insights they offer are an understanding of the core reasons for disease and the primary ways for healing. We will explore the three primary causes of sickness, which begin with emotional unrest. Then we will investigate the five methods of healing, which begin with the need for spiritual awakening. Food as healing is the second powerful method to transform sickness into well-being. While these ideas may sound new-age, they originated over 2,500 years ago and remain central to the secrets of true healing.

FOOD AS MEDICINE—FOOD AS EVERYDAY EATING
With Michael Rossoff, L.Ac.
————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Macrobiotics is popularly known as a diet for cancer. Yet long time macrobiotic teachers speak of the "macrobiotic philosophy" as the key to changing ourselves, our environment, society and world. Between these two views is a wide gulf of understanding. The challenge is how to explain macrobiotics in a way that can encompass both its strict guidelines for helping heal serious diseases and its broader applications for everyone else. Michael will give you insights for knowing when you are to lax or too strict with your eating, how to embrace foods to fulfill emotional needs and how to see that our food choices directly effects our mental and spiritual awareness.

August 7 - 11
Truro, Mass.
Sunday, August 8 —Evening Lecture
“ Secrets of Inner Vitality ”
THE SECRETS OF INNER VITALITY
With Michael Rossoff, L.Ac.
————————————————————————————————————————————————————
From its earliest beginnings, Oriental medicine recognized that health is the key to long life. Rather than seeking an elusive Fountain of Youth, it combined various elements of health practices to promote anyone's wellbeing and thereby create longevity.
Controlling and nourishing the jing, or original essence, is a core focus.
At the same time, lifestyle factors and environmental influences can deplete this core essence. These not only remain relevant in modern times but are having ever greater weakening effects. Learn what these are and how to protect yourself.
While some of the longevity appraches are very exotic and even toxic, there are many others that we can employ for our own greater wellness. We will explore some of the most useful, including dietary changes, special exercises, breathing practices and a few acupressure points.

He will teach you how to recognize signs of troubles brewing and how to know when problems are truly improved. You will learn which foods weaken and disturb specific organs and functions, then which foods can strengthen and support continued wellness. You’ll learn six major acupressure points that will help improve digestion and therefore your power of self-healing.
